REDWOOD CREEK HISTORY

The main sport fish in Redwood Creek are Steelhead and Chinook Salmon. Coho Salmon, as well as sea-run cutthroat trout are also present.

Redwood Creek flows through the town of Orick, located approximately 45 miles north of Eureka on Hwy 101. The watershed of the creek has been under tremendous logging pressure in the past and therefore this creek blows out rather quickly. A key to fishing, is to be on the water when fish are running and to have cooperative weather conditions. Redwood Creek is a good stream to fish after the first rains of the season.

The area surrounding Redwood Creek has many interesting sites to visit. Just south of the town of Orick is the Redwood Information Center. This is the information center for Redwood National and State Park. View the exhibits and browse the publications that tell about the park, its trees, coastline , and related topics. A trail map is available and interpretive programs are offered during summer months. Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Tall Trees Grove and Redwood Creek Trail are some of the highlights in the general area.
